Innovative, Interactive Education!

The Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care
A comprehensive learning and development strategy for the learner featuring 24 hours of in-class education and 6 hours of practical assignments. The program follows a Resource Guide of basic information that is further developed through a case-based, learning-through dialogue approach in the classroom. Participants represent a wide variety of backgrounds, from chaplains, social workers and support workers to RNs, doctors, dieticians and pharamacists. The Fundamentals is offered three times a year throughout Halton and Peel. For an overview of the course click here.

Advanced Hospice Palliative Care Education (AHPCE)
The program is specifically designed to meet the learning aspirations and needs of support workers who care for someone with a life threatening illness and his/her family. The program builds on the Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care Course (Fundamentals course certificate required for admission to AHPCE) and the content is specific to the role of the support worker. Features of the course include:

  • Effective group function
  • Effective communication
  • Ability to facilitate change
  • 24 hours of in-class education and 6 hours of practical assignments

Comprehensive Hospice Palliative Care Education (CAPCE)
CAPCE is a new program directed at nurses from a variety of organizations, including LTC homes and community agencies. The program is designed with the expectation that new knowledge and skills will be transferred to practice and applied in the learner’s workplace. This 7-month program takes place from September to March and includes in-class and online education in addition to workplace mentoring. Applications are accepted once a year in the spring. Completion of The Fundamentals is a prerequisite for admission to CAPCE.
